Tournaments Structures.

Manx Championship .

7 players (all play all) consisting of 3 automatic qualification places, Manx, Candidates & Douglas Champions / 3 highest graded entries and 4 and 5 highest graded entries into a one game play off. (A toss of a coin will determine colours)
Playoff game is a draw – decided by two rapid games with a rate of play of 15 minutes plus 10 seconds a move. If the rapid match finishes equal then the winner will be determined by Armageddon with 5 minutes for White and 4 minutes for Black, Black having drawn odds. A toss of a coin will determine colours.
Entry via non automatic qualification players must have an ECF Grade of 150 minimum.
If any of the 3 Champions don’t enter or one player wins more than one championship that vacant entry will be revert to the highest graded entry process.

Rate of Play – 75 minutes per person with a 30 second increment per move from move 1. (no required number of moves)

Tie Break Rules:-
In the event of a two players tying for first place in the Manx the winner of the tournament will be decided by a two game play off, rate of play as above with alternative colours. If the play off finishes equal then the tournament will enter into two rapid games with a rate of play of 15 minutes plus 10 seconds a move. If the rapid match finishes equal then the winner will be determined by Armageddon with 5 minutes for White and 4 minutes for Black, Black having draw odds. A toss of a coin will determine colours.
In the event of three or more players tying for first place, the top two will be determined by tiebreak, in the following order of priority, and will enter the play-off described above:
The results between the players involved in the tie.
Sonneborn-Berger.
Most games with black.
Drawing of lots.

Terms & Conditions for entry – You must be a current member of the ECF, current IOM Chess Club Member and pay a tournament entry fee of £10.

Candidates Championship.

7 players (all play all) consisting of 1 automatic qualification place, Challengers Champion /
5 highest graded entries and 6 and 7 highest graded entries into a one game play off.

7 players, all play all. (if more than 8 entries tournament to revert to a 6 round swiss tournament).

Open Swiss Tournament – 6 rounds.

Rate of Play:- 75 minutes per person with a 30 second increment per move from move 1. (no required number of moves)

You can take one ½ point bye but not in the last round.

Rapid play handicap.

10 minutes for each game, 6 rounds, (1 night)

25 minutes each player, 6 rounds, (2 night event)

Blitz.

5 minutes each player, type of tournament depends on number of entries.
